As we come to the end of Elul and the arrival of the High Holidays, I wanted to share this beautiful song “Returning Home” by Ishay Ribo. It is a powerful and beautiful message of returning home both metaphorically and literally.  Such is the power of forgiveness.

Thank you to the folks at Ulpan La-Inyan for sharing this with me.   The English lyrics are below.

The time has come to wake up
To put down everything and overcome
To return home to look for nowhere else

The time has come to change
Even if we missed a few stops
We can get off there’s a train
back to the neighborhoods

Everything’s possible if we only want
The seeker always finds
Even if he’s there, far away at the edge
The doors of heaven have not been locked
When the son calls for help
So the Father in Heaven arrives even…

Even when we’ve done something bad
He forgives and pardons
Forgives and pardons
And stretches out a helping hand
And gives in His mercy
The power to mend and return to Him

The time has come to regret
If we’re running away, let’s run from sin
If we’re taking anyway, let’s take to give

And this is the time to come close
Not to fear the pain
And if we’re giving anyway
Then to give wholeheartedly

Everything’s possible if we only want
The seeker always finds
Even if he’s there, far away at the edge
The doors of heaven have not been locked
When the son calls for help
So the Father in Heaven arrives even…
